In the third episode of our Industrial Design Futures series, host Ian Chalmers speaks with industrial designer, professor and author Job Rutgers. They discuss the approach to industrial design education at OCAD university in Toronto, the effects of AI on designers, and the ways in which the definition of industrial design is evolving.
Job Rutgers is a professor at OCAD University and has co-designed their industrial design curriculum (BA) and Design for Health program. He is creative director with OCADU CO, the executive education arm of the university that trains enterprises in futures, systems thinking, and design thinking. He has also co-authored a book titled, "Design Thinking in Making", that provides an in-depth description of the industrial design program at OCAD University. Job is a partner at OpenCity Projects— a boutique studio that combines spatial and service design in the public space.
